Scrabble Attitude

How’s your Q-words-without-U game?
My sister, Nicholette, was in town and she wanted to have a game night at Mawmaw Betty’s. Sweet, I love game nights. Nicholette lives up north these days, so we’re psyched anytime we get to hang. It ended up being a cozy crew: us, my other sister, Olivia, and Kylynn.
Mawmaw Betty’s place is the bee’s knees. She’s the epitome of southern hospitality. Like, you walk in, and her house smells of Comfort and Rest. Never smelled that? Well, you’ve never met mawmaw. Supa-soft quilts drape her comfy couch. Birds and squirrels play in the backyard garden. There’s fresh mango fruit salsa on the counter. Mmm.
Game time. Scrabble was our first pick. I got lucky on the letters draw and played voyage on my first turn. Fast forward a few rounds and Nicholette played drawl. The spelling felt odd for some reason, so I decided to challenge it. We couldn’t quite remember the challenge rules, so we skimmed the rule pamphlet.
Drawl was indeed a word. I lost the challenge… But stumbled upon an unexpected section on Attitude. It’s just part of the rule pamphlet, right? Yet it feels like more.
Keep in mind that anyone can beat anyone else with a certain amount of luck. Also remember that everyone draws poor combinations of tiles at times, so when you do, take pleasure in making the best play you can. Finally, don’t dwell on your mistakes. Everyone makes them, so go easy on yourself and just enjoy playing.
